Hailing from the city of Atlanta, Georgia, Collective Soul gained a special place in the hearts of music lovers when they burst onto the scene in 1993 with the rock anthem, “Shine” from their debut album,
Hints, Allegations and Things Left Unsaid. The album was a collection of Ed Roland’s demos that spread quickly through the college underground circuit and caught fire going on to achieve Double Platinum status. After having been invited to the 25th Anniversary Woodstock concert, the band went into the studio to record their sophomore follow-up. Released in 1995, the self-titled
Collective Soul was the album that helped define their sound of catchy melodies and guitar driven songs. Featuring five singles – three of which reached #1 – “December,” “The World I Know,” “Where The River Flows,” “Gel” and “Smashing Young Man,” it became their highest selling album to date and went Triple Platinum. It also spent 76 weeks on the Billboard Top 200 chart.
In 1997, they released
Disciplined which produced two more hits … “Precious Declaration” and “Listen” followed two years later by
Dosage which featured the #1 single, “Heavy.” The band’s fifth studio album,
Blended included the top singles, “Why, Part 2,” “Vent” and “Perfect Day” … a duet with Sir Elton John. After ending their contract with Atlantic Records in 2004, they created their own label, El Music Group and released the album,
Youth. They then made an exclusive deal with all Target stores in 2007 … to be the sole seller of their seventh studio album,
Afterwords which opened at #25 on the Billboard Comprehensive Albums chart and #4 on the Billboards Top Internet Albums chart. In 2008, “Tremble For My Beloved” found Collective Soul on the soundtrack of the blockbuster film,
Twilight. And just last summer, they released their most recent album,
Rabbit on Loud & Proud/Roadrunner Records. Collective Soul will be performing for one night only at Boulevard Casino’s Red Robinson Show Theatre in October.
