Red Robinson Show Theatre
The most successful and beloved female recording artist to hail from England, Petula Clark became North America’s #1 female vocalist during the musical British Invasion of the 60’s. Along with The Beatles, Petula conquered the international world of pop music topping the charts with her unforgettable million-seller, “Downtown” earning her the first of two Grammys. A long string of classics followed including “I Know A Place,” “My Love,” "A Sign of the Times," “I Couldn’t Live Without Your Love,” "Who Am I," “Colour My World,” "This Is My Song," "Don't Sleep in the Subway" and “Kiss Me Goodbye” for which she won her second Grammy. Petula also enjoyed a successful acting career having starred in several British films including I Know Where I’m Going! (1945) and London Town (1946). Her movie career further blossomed in the US when she was paired opposite Fred Astaire in Francis Ford Coppola’s Finian’s Rainbow (1968) and Peter O’Toole in M-G-M’s musical remake of Goodbye, Mr. Chips (1969) which earned her a Golden Globe nomination. Her television credits include appearances on such network variety shows as The Ed Sullivan Show, The Dean Martin Show and The Carol Burnett Show. In 1994, Petula received rave reviews starring on Broadway in the hit musical, Blood Brothers and subsequently toured with the show across the country. More accolades followed as she starred as “Norma Desmond” in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Sunset Boulevard on London’s West End in 1996. She then took the show on tour in the US for over two years and went on to star in the stage production of The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber in 2000. Last month her new album, Open Your Heart: A Love Song Collection was released and is a compilation of previously unreleased material along with remixed recordings. Petula will be performing for a one-night engagement at Boulevard Casino’s Red Robinson Show Theatre in September.
