With close to a dozen top ten hits to his name, Wales-born guitarist and vocalist, Spencer Davis created the famed Spencer Davis Group in 1963 along with brothers, Steve Winwood and Muff Winwood. The group helped bring British rock ‘n roll to the rest of the world with such hits as “Gimme Some Lovin’," “Somebody Help Me,” “I’m a Man,” “When I Come Home” and “Keep On Running.” Davis’ fluency in German, French and Spanish helped him gain great popularity throughout continental Europe. Then when the hits started to come one after the other, his momentum spurred major US success. In 1970, Spencer moved to the United States where he went on to record a now hard-to-find solo album and then played in an acoustic blues bland which included Richard Landis and Peter Jameson. By the mid-70’s, he worked at Island Records (his group’s label) and as a record company executive, worked to further the profiles of such artists as Bob Marley and Robert Palmer. It was then in the early 80’s when Spencer – who was head of A&G for a small Hollywood-based independent label – felt the itch to play in a band again. He made his next album, Crossfire in 1984 with such guests as Flo and Eddie, Booker T. Jones and Dusty Springfield. During the 90’s, audiences watched Spencer pick up the pace with club and concert tours. In 1997, he reunited with original drummer, Pete York for a world tour hitting Japan, the Far East, Middle East and Scandinavia. Then in 2004, the Spencer Davis Group headed out for a month-long tour of the UK before heading to Germany, Hungary and Italy. Today the group consists of Spencer and Eddie Hardin (who replaced Steve after he left the group to join Traffic in 1967) along with Steff Porzel, Colin Hodgkinson, Miller Anderson and Jim Blazer. The Spencer Davis Group will be performing at Boulevard Casino’s Red Robinson Show Theatre in March, 2010.
