Margaret Cho is an innovator and pioneer on many levels and has been performing stand-up since the age of eighteen when she snuck into a comedy club above her parents’ bookstore in San Francisco. Soon after, she won a comedy contest where first prize was opening for Jerry Seinfeld. Still in her early twenties, Cho hit the college circuit where immediately she became the most booked act in the market and garnered a nomination for “Campus Comedian of the Year.” Arsenio Hall introduced her to late night audiences while Bob Hope put her on one of his prime time specials and seemingly overnight, she became a national celebrity. In 1994, Cho starred in her own sitcom, “All-American Girl” which aired on ABC. She then chronicled her sitcom experience in an off-Broadway one-woman show called “I’m The One That I Want” in 1999. The show was extremely well received, toured the US and was made into a concert film and best-selling book of the same name. Two years later, she launched “Notorious C.H.O.” which was a smash-hit 37-city national tour that culminated in a sold-out concert at Carnegie Hall. Cho then embarked on her third sold-out national tour, “Revolution” in 2003. The DVD and CD of the concert was released with the CD earning a Grammy nomination for “Best Comedy Album of the Year.” Her "Beautiful" tour opened to sold-out crowds last spring and because of its huge success was extended through the fall. Cho was the recipient of the first ever “Best Comedy Performance Award” at the 2007 Asian Excellence Awards. She has also received the First Amendment Award from the ACLU of Southern California and the Intrepid Award from the National Organization for Women. Just this past August, she returned to television with “The Cho Show” which airs on VH1 ... she describes the series as a “reality sitcom” which follows her and her real-life parents along with her eccentric entourage including her assistant through a series of irreverent and outrageous experiences shaped by her “anything goes” brand of stand-up. Cho will be performing for night only at the Boulevard Casino’s Red Robinson Show Theatre in January, 2009.
